Which Cordless Drill?

Why Cordless?

Drills Dewalt

Charge it up and take it anywhere. With a cordless drill, you can work anywhere. Cordless is easier to use in confined spaces and especially useful in the garden if you have no access to a powerpoint. Working outside in the rain, it's way more preferable to having a mains voltage extension cord under your feet.

Drills Dewalt

Most cordless drills nowadays feature a 'keyless chuck'. This allows an easy change of drill bits with no tools required.

Drill Speed

Drill Speed is measured in rotations per minute (rpm). With a variable speed cordless drill you also have a powerful cordless screwdriver in your toolset. Start driving slowly and then speed up once the screw 'bites'. Switch into reverse to loosen stubborn woodscrews - much easier on the arm than a normal screwdriver.

Hammer Action

With a hammer action drill, the chuck moves backwards and forwards as it spins - hammering as it drills. This makes drilling into brickwork and masonry easier.

Voltage

The higher the voltage the more power you have at your disposal. A high voltage drill will also require a larger battery that in turn will make the drill larger and heavier. If you intend to do mostly masonry drilling then buy the highest powered drill that you can sensibly afford. Cordless drill voltages commonly range between 12-24 volts.Typically, a 12v or 14.4v drill will be fine for occasional use while an 18v or 24v drill would be better for a professional tradesman.

Battery Type

Typically, at the moment, most cordless drills are sold with NiCad or NiMH rechargeable batteries. The latest generation of batteries being used in some cordless power tools are the Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries. These are lighter, run longer and maintain their charge much more effectively than previous rechargeable batteries.

Charge Times

Battery charge times vary from model to model. Some drill/charger combinations feature 'fast charge' settings. If your drill is intended for sustained use, get a spare battery. Keep one on charge while using the other.

Overalls for Construction and Industrial Jobs

How often have you left a day at work with stains on your pants and shirt? For those in construction, industrial, and manufacturing jobs, this is a common occurrence. While working in your ordinary clothing is typical for many occupations, those in dusty and dirty areas or in positions involving oil or chemicals have a greater risk of ruining their clothing. Instead of washing out stains every night, come to your workplace prepared with overalls.

Drills Dewalt

Most overalls protect your clothing on the job. Before you begin to work, make sure you are equipped with a comfortable pair of overalls over your ordinary pants and t-shirt. Made out of denim or a similarly durable material, overalls catch all the dust and dirt, while keeping your ordinary garments clean. Once the work day is over, you just need to change out of your overalls, and your clothing will still be clean.

Drills Dewalt

While not a piece of safety equipment, overalls are convenient in many industrial, construction, and manufacturing jobs. While most ordinary denim overalls essentially act as a dirt guard, others keep you insulated on the job. When you need to work outdoors in the winter or in any cold conditions, not having the right work wear impacts your performance. How can you do well when you're cold all the time? In order to be warm on the job, layer your work clothing by wearing a pair of overalls over pants and a shirt and a jacket on top. If the weather becomes warmer during the work day, you can just remove one of the garments.

Although most associate overalls with denim, other materials are used. Cotton duck, also known as canvas, is used for Carhartt overalls, which were designed originally for railroad workers. When choosing clothing for your job, consider the environment and working conditions and find a material that meets your needs.

Rotary Clothes Line - Top 3 Tips For Choosing the Right Rotary Style Clothesline For Your Home

These lines have become quite popular over the years because they help to save space, they allow you to dry many clothes at once, and there are many options available to you today. If you are ready to purchase a rotary style clothesline of your own, keep the following tips on mind for the best results.

Drills Dewalt

Tip #1 - Decide on Fixed vs. Removable

Drills Dewalt

Decide whether or not you want a fixed or a removable rotary clothes line. This is important when you are making your purchase because they are very different and have their own pros and cons. If you go with a fixed option, it will have to be put in permanently with some concrete. While they are very strong, they will not be easy to remove and if you need more space in the back yard, you are out of luck. The other option that you have is to go with a removable option. These lines easily fold up and you can remove them. This allows you to move it around in the back yard or you can even bring it indoors and store it if you need the space available in the back yard. Consider your needs before deciding which one will work best for you.

Tip #2 - Consider the Size You Need

Another important tip for choosing the right rotary clothes line for your home is to consider the size that you need. There are various sizes to choose from. Some have a head that is only about 9 feet around. Others are larger and can be up to 27 feet around. Obviously, you want to go with the one that is going to fit in your backyard easily. For a smaller area, go with a smaller line. Larger yards can accommodate larger options, which will allow you to dry even more clothing at one time. Going with the largest one you can is a great way to make sure you can dry your laundry quickly.

Tip #3 - Look at Features Available

Last, you need to look at the features that are available with a rotary clothes line. Depending on the option you choose, there are various extras you may want to go with. Some have umbrellas on top so clothing won't get wet, while others have special hangers on them to make it easy to hang up clothing to dry. Consider the features that are most important to you and look for them on the one you choose.

Chimney Caps

Why do you need a chimney cap?

Drills Dewalt

You need to cover your flue because of the following reasons:

Drills Dewalt

• If your flue does not have a cap the chances are, rain can go inside the chimney and turn off the stove.

• Animals such as birds will take advantage of the warmth of the flue and can make their nests in your flue. A flue cap keeps them away from your flue.

• Mostly in metal flues there is air or some insulation between the caps. Without a flue cap, moisture and dust can enter between these layers and it can reduce the life of a flue.

Sometimes the flue caps are also required when an existing flue cap has been torn out and you cannot mend the previous one. Or when the existing cap is causing wind problems.

Types of chimney caps:

Single Flue chimney caps: These caps are designed to tie closely to your clay flue at the top of your fire hearth. The flue cap rests on the top of your flue tile and at the base it is zipped with pressure screws. It is available in stainless steel, copper and black galvanized steel.

Chimney Caps for Metal Chimneys: Solid pack and air cooled chimneys are available in the market for every model. These flues caps are constructed with stainless steel so you need not worry about the corrosion and rust.

Wind Resistant Chimney Caps: To the problems of downdrafts and back puffing in your flue, this is a perfect solution.

Advantages of installing a chimney cap:

• It keeps animals, especially birds from sitting on your flue and does not allow them to built nests at the top.

• In rainy season this flue cap does not allow rain to enter the flue and reduces the flue smell that usually arises in summer.

• It melts ice and steams rain that settles on top of the flue and thus increases the life of the flue.

Disadvantages of installing a chimney:

• An improperly designed or installed flue can reduce the draft.

• Sometimes it has small openings due to which the soot and ashes can clog after heavy use. This can reduce the life of your flue and stove/fire hearth.

• Chimney caps can blow off or get damaged in high winds. This can cause you to pay a visit to the top of your home to fix it. make sure whatever you installed is good enough

Tools for Tree Care

If you have trees on your property, you will need to care for them to keep them healthy and green. The first step in providing this maintenance is to assemble a proper tool kit for the job. Fortunately the tools you will need are simple and fairly basic.

Drills Dewalt

Saws

Drills Dewalt

One of the main jobs you will face is the removal of dead or dying limbs. The best tool for this is a limb saw which is designed for the purpose. This can be purchased at any hardware store or home improvement center. A crosscut saw can also be used for that purpose.

For larger limbs one of the best tools you can use is a small chainsaw. The electric ones are cheaper but you will need to have a cord to provide power. There are some battery-powered chainsaws available but they are not reliable because of the amount of electricity the battery can store. If you want to cut all day you will probably need a gasoline powered chainsaw.

For work in the yard, an electric powered model will probably suffice. There are now many excellent electric ones available for less than 0.

There are also a variety of powered limb saws available for these purposes as well. These are expensive and should probably only be purchased if you have a lot of trees to maintain.

Other Tools

Axes and sledgehammers can be used to knock off smaller limbs but they don't work as good as a saw. A better means of taking off such branches is a pair of pruning sheers. Such sheers are available at hardware stores and online.

There are also electric and gasoline powered devices called pole pruners. These can be used to prune or cut branches fairly high up in the average tree without using a ladder. A pole pruner is nothing but a chainsaw on the end of a pole that a person can use to cut a high limb with. This makes the job easier and safer. Both fixed length and telescoping versions of these devices are available. Such gadgets are available online and at most hardware stores, home centers, discount stores and department stores.

Another tool that you might need is a knife to remove excess bark from palms. The best blade to use for this task is a sharp carpet knife which can also be used to control the spread of moss and fungus.

Finally go and check hardware stores, websites and other outlets there are now a wide variety of tree maintenance tools available. These devices make caring for the foliage in your yard easier and safer.

Clamps Are One Of The Most Versatile Devices You Can Have In Your Toolbox

It might surprise you that clamps have been with us for thousands of years. Early Egyptians used a type of clamp in the construction of the pyramids. Since then these tools have evolved into many different variations, yet the basic principle of the clamp remains unchanged. In this article I'll cover some of the more common clamps used today for wood and metal work.

Drills Dewalt

The Versatile "C" Clamp.

Drills Dewalt

Probably the most recognizable of the clamps, these tools typically come in sizes ranging from 1 - 8 inches. These sizes denote the maximum opening width. The depth to the back of the clamp ranges from 1 inch to about 4 inches, depending on the size of the tool. There also larger sizes available, but the smaller ones are most commonly used for everyday work.

Using a "C" clamp is fairly simple, but a tip to remember is to use scrap wood between the clamp jaws and the surface of the material you are working on. These protective pads also serve in distributing pressure uniformly. The ball joint at the foot of the clamp is designed to swivel so that work which is not uniformly flat may still be securely clamped.

Spring Clamps - The Simplest Of All

These handy devices are the simplest to use for light-duty work where high clamping pressure is not required. These tools range in size from a little over 4 inches to about 9 inches, with jaw openings from just under an inch to 3 inches. They are perfectly suited when you need to apply many clamps quickly, such as when you are working with fast-setting adhesives. The better ones come with vinyl-covered jaws to protect the work from marring.

Bar and Pipe-Bar Clamps

These tools, commonly called cabinet or furniture clamps, are manufactured two ways: With jaws mounted on a flat steel bar in lengths from 12 inches up to 48 inches; and with jaws designed to fit ½ inch to 1 7/8 inch pipes.

Using this clamp is easy. Set the fixed jaw against one side of the work and slide the movable jaw against the other. Recent designs allow you to use one hand to complete all the necessary steps to secure the clamp against the work.

No matter the size of the job there is probably a clamp that can be utilized to make things easier. From its humble beginnings this tool has proven to be indispensable for any serious do-it-yourselfer.

Sharpening a Bandsaw Blade

You undoubtedly consider your bandsaw to be one of the most important tools in your workshop. Any woodworker knows that this is one of the easiest and fastest way to cut wood in precise shapes for any number of potential projects. These versatile tools are a staple of the woodworking shop. No matter what brand or model of bandsaw you own, you will inevitably find that as the blade becomes duller, your saw simply doesn't work as well as it should. Of course, if you hit a rock or embedded nail, or are cutting through green wood that is very abrasive, you may find yourself going through bandsaw blades even faster.

Drills Dewalt

If you're like most woodworkers, you cringe at the thought of expensive blades, but always assumed you had no other choice once the blade became dull. At to per blade, this expense can add up quickly, whether you're a weekend hobbyist or a full-time professional woodworker. Why not consider sharpening the blades to extend their lifespan? Dull bandsaw blades don't have to be thrown out if you can resharpen them to bring back their precise edge. While it is easiest to sharpen blades with fewer teeth per inch, it is even possible to sharpen fine tooth blades. If you're ever sharpened a knife, the process is essentially the same, and it's even possible for those with no knife sharpening experience to sharpen their bandsaw blades.

Drills Dewalt

When sharpening any blade, using proper safety precautions is essential. Sharpening a bandsaw blade requires gloves to protect your hands from the sharp edges of the blade. You must also wear safety goggles. When sharpening the blade of a bandsaw, the first step is to unplug the saw. Then, check for any major defects along the length of the blade, such as a stress crack or major chip. Don't try to resharpen these blades - it's definitely time for a replacement.

Often, a bandsaw blade is sharpened while still on the saw. It is certainly also possible to sharpen the blade after removing it, and depending on the setup in your workshop, it may be more comfortable to work in this manner.

In order to sharpen a bandsaw blade, many woodworkers use a grinding wheel, though there are a couple of other options to consider. Experienced woodworkers may opt to carefully sharpen each and every tooth with a manual method, such as a sharpening stick. Automatic bandsaw sharpeners, however, make short work of what can become a time consuming task. There are machines specially designed for sharpening bandsaws, which will automatically sharpen the blade for you, in addition to grinding wheels and rotary tools such as a Dremel.

With your left hand, hold the blade taut and choose a tooth where you will start sharpening. Make a small mark so that you know where to stop as you reach the end of the sharpening process. The right hand applies pressure with the sharpener, whether it is a sharpening rod, a high-speed rotary tool, or some other method. To resharpen the teeth of the blade, you will be lightly grinding the back of each tooth, in one or two light strokes. Always follow the natural contours of the blade. As you sharpen, bright metal should be exposed along the length of each tooth. As you move along the blade, move it downwards with your gloved hand so that you can access the next tooth.

It should take anywhere from ten to 30 minutes to resharpen the entire blade, tooth by tooth. Woodworkers find that they can usually use the blade through at least 6 to 10 resharpenings before it's time for a replacement.
